Goldberg Segalla announced that Ebele Ebonwu has joined the company’s workers’ compensation group in its Baltimore office.

Ebonwu focuses his practice on advising and defending employers, insurers and third-party administrators in matters of workers’ compensation. She is involved in all stages of the workers’ compensation claims process, from inception to resolution.

Ebonwu draws on its experience in complex class action, arbitration and mediation, including actions involving labor disputes, product liability, civil rights, sexual harassment, defective products and wage theft claims.

Prior to entering private practice, Ebonwu gained extensive experience as a student attorney at the Consumer Bankruptcy Clinic in Baltimore, assisting pro bono clients referred by the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service, conducting client interviews, preparing bankruptcy documents and other pleadings, and appearing in court as lead counsel.

Ebonwu earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina, a master’s degree from Bowie State University, and his JD from the Francis King Carey School of Law at the University of Maryland.

Pamela Derksen joins NFP

NFP, a property and casualty insurance broker, benefits consultant, wealth manager and retirement advisor, has announced the hiring of Pamela Derksen as Deputy Chief Compliance Officer for NFP in Canada.

In this role, Derksen will develop corporate policies and procedures and represent NFP with Canadian regulators. Derksen will report to Suzanne Spradley, Senior Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer and Associate General Counsel of NFP.

Derksen joins NFP from Cowan Insurance Group, where she served as Vice President, Brokerage and Insurance Relations, Personal and Commercial. Previously, she was Vice President, Operations, Broker Policy and Administration Systems, for Economical Insurance. In all, Derksen brings 25 years of experience in the insurance industry, from commercial underwriting in Western Canada to a variety of operational and corporate leadership roles with major national carriers.

In addition to earning his bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from the University of Calgary and a certificate in executive leadership from McMaster University,

Derksen holds the Chartered Insurance Professional and Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional designations from the Insurance Institute of Southern Alberta. She is also a board member of the Oxford-Elgin Child and Youth Centre.

Dave Ashton covered by Holmes Murphy

Holmes Murphy has announced the hiring of Dave Ashton as Chief Information Officer.

Prior to joining Holmes Murphy, Ashton was CEO of Principal Trust Company for Principal Hong Kong, where he managed the general management of the Principal Hong Kong group of companies, providing retirement and long-term savings solutions. Prior to that, Ashton was vice president and chief information officer for Principal International.

Vida Capital adds Matthew Roesler to the fold

Vida Capital, Inc., a portfolio company of RedBird Capital Partners and Reverence Capital Partners, announced that Matthew Roesler has joined the firm as Managing Director, Structured Credit.

Roesler will be based in New York and will report to Peter Polanskyj, head of structured credit. In this role, Roesler will work alongside Polanskyj to support the firm’s structured finance portfolios.

“I am delighted to welcome Matt to our firm and I am confident that his experience will make him a valuable addition to the team. In his previous roles, he has demonstrated his ability to generate consistent and attractive risk-adjusted returns” , said Polanskyj.

Roesler is a former partner and portfolio manager at Apollo Global Management, where he was responsible for synthetic structured credit investments, capital relief solutions and operations, and secured financing. He was also a voting member of Apollo’s Structured Credit Investment Committee responsible for all CLO, ABS and corporate esoteric structured credit investments.

Previously, Roesler was a director at Citigroup in the credit correlation office, where he was responsible for all risk management and custom asset creation and trading. Prior to Citigroup, he began his career at Deutsche Bank in various positions in transaction management and fixed income structuring.

Fusion Specialty hires Richard Liu

Fusion Specialty, a global specialist in mergers and acquisitions insurance for small and medium-sized businesses, has added Richard Liu as a partner in Fusion Americas following the companies’ recently announced launch. Liu assumes the role effective immediately and will report to Brian Hayes, Managing Partner.

Liu brings legal, brokerage and underwriting experience to Fusion Americas, having primarily worked in the M&A market.

He joined AXA XL where he held the position of Vice President, M&A. Prior to that, Liu was a vice president at Atlantic Global Risk after working at KPMG in its mergers and acquisitions tax group.
